Copyright news, from the sooner or later dept.,

It seems that the tattoo artist, one Matthew Reed, who created the distinctive Egyptian tattoo on the arm of NBA star Rasheed Wallace is suing over copyright violations because Nike is using the tattoo prominently in Nike ads. Well, it seems that the dispute is over just who exactly has intellectual property rights over a tattoo? Does the artist who drew the artwork have it or does it reside with the person who paid for it to be done (Rasheed Wallace). The artist most seemingly is going to claim a shared right to the artwork and that he deserves a share in whatever fees Wallace is getting from the commercials.

Heh, here is hoping that the corporate copyright advocates get a taste of their own medicine... :)
